          Put a Sock In It!

          October 11, 2018

Every time I go to put my summer clothes in the attic, the sun comes out and cosy clothes stay put. I am now looking forward to the colder climes so I can actually wear my heavier knits and cashmere jumpers…winter hurry up (controversial possibly!)

I don’t need much this season but footwear as ever is on my shopping list. Something to suit cooler days and shorter hemlines, as cropped trousers and midi length dresses leave ankles to fend for themselves.

A trend I love looking at but sadly know I won’t be wearing is the ankle socks with heels look, totally practical and impractical at the same time. Ideal for ankle warmth but too cutesy for some of us, another answer for a slim ankle silhouette is the longer ankle boot, sock style or slim and zip up, (without the crinkled sock dilemma).

Inspiration: socks and heels on Pinterest and designer, Mary Katrantzou‘s pretty pastels.

Reality: slim fitting ankle boots fill the gap under midi skirts and crops.

Here’s a selection showing the vast range in prices available.

Phase Eight Tallulah boot, non leather, £140

Hobbs Imogen boot, leather, but also in black or navy suede, £199

& Other Stories suede stretch boot, £129

Clarks Margot leather side zip, £150

Russell & Bromely Socklet kitten heel boot, in choice of colours and animal prints £295

Whistles Vittoria leather sock boot with side zip, £195

And this is a fact, certain clothes just don’t look the same as we age. Not a bad thing, just a different thing. I am happy to see my teenage daughter experimenting whilst I choose a slightly more grown up option…sometimes!

Moving through my forties I've gained confidence to believe in 'style over trends' - quality wins (most of the time) and not to take it all too seriously. A great jacket is always my motto, and I like to play about with old and new and mix in some craft ideas too. I work with lovely clients who want a concise wardrobe or a unique outfit for a special occasion. I hope to inspire you.
