          When it’s really hot…

          The Clutch Clench

          May 17, 2016

I really do have a thing for clutch bags…. I love the simplicity of shape, the small hit of colour and the practical fact that they don’t weigh down on your shoulder. It’s also an opportunity to add a print you probably wouldn’t wear as clothing and add some humour, a talking point. Ok, the down side is what to do with it when you need hands free, but I have perfected the under arm clench (although it makes my arms more Popeye than usual!) or choose one with a wrist strap, which works as long as the bag hasn’t been over loaded.

A big plus, is that you don’t need to spend a fortune to make a statement, although the designer ones are great to look at for inspiration. The amazing bag above by Dolce & Gabbana at Matches is over £5000 with natural woven raffia, hand painted and enamel flowers – phew! And I love this one by Figue which has an embroidered, tassel and pom pom overdose.

Figue at Matches, £268, mirrored tassels galore.

My favourite of the moment are brightly coloured, embroidered, nearly purse styles, from independent boutique, Woodie & Morris, £45. They are casually quirky to go with jeans and T-shirt to add a fun dynamic. The internal lining is all stripy and the new designs will also have a playful tassel. Get in touch for details and mail order.

This is my neon embroidered summer clutch with added tassel, (£2 from a haberdashery store). It adds something eye-catching to a basic denim and navy base.

Add colour to denim at and clutch clench!

Add some colour blocking from Not on the High Street, £27 (plus p&p) with the option of adding an initialed personalised disc for a gift.

This is my colour blocking day look, with my red Jones Bookmaker leather clutch, £29, it’s a perfect size, although now they only sell in a tan (great for Autumn) and black. (Hide the shoulder strap for essential usage)

I have also pur-chased this metallic clutch from Accessorize, a gorgeous soft shine ….and its leather, sale price £20. ( I might add a furnishing tassel for an evening option)

A designer metallic by Anya Hindmarsh, is dramatic in style with a whopper of a tassel.

For a bit of fun and colour, Anthropologie have this fabulous beaded cockatoo clutch, £78 – I don’t think I will be wearing yellow this summer but as an accessory it’s easy to add the sunny shade.

Sometimes its the little details that make all the difference, just make sure it sits on the coffee table for full impact. More ideas on my Clutch Pinterest board.

Moving through my forties I've gained confidence to believe in 'style over trends' - quality wins (most of the time) and not to take it all too seriously. A great jacket is always my motto, and I like to play about with old and new and mix in some craft ideas too. I work with lovely clients who want a concise wardrobe or a unique outfit for a special occasion. I hope to inspire you.
